winter solstice

Taking place on the 22nd of December this year, the winter solstice signifies the 24-hour period with the least amount of daylight in the northern hemisphere, essentially marking the shortest day of the year or the longest night.

The Winter Solstice in the Norther Hemisphere is a season to rest and reflect whereas on the Southern Hemisphere they celebrate the Summer Solstice, which is a time of new beginnings.

The word “solstice” is derived from the Latin words “sol” (sun) and “sistere” (to stand). In other words, “The day the sun stands still.”

At the Winter Solstice, we acknowledge this minuscule new illumination. With the emergence of the Sun, a fresh year commences. It marks the inception of a novel cycle of inception, progression, and culmination in the realm of Nature; an entire new year of existence, adventures, and metamorphosis. It signifies the commencement of a new chapter.

Which makes this a really hopeful & exciting time. Anything is possible in the year that lies ahead. Anything can grow in your life. It’s a time of pure potential.

Which heralds a time brimming with hope and excitement. The upcoming year holds boundless possibilities, where growth and transformation are within reach. It is a period characterised by limitless, pure potential and promising opportunities.

And what a gift that we have with this new beginning every year. This chance to go deep inside & emerge as a new version of ourselves. What growth and transformation will the year ahead bring?

And amidst this season, we encounter Christmas!

A time that evokes pure delight and joy for some, while others may not share the same sentiment. I unequivocally belong to the latter category.  This year, after numerous years of embodying the Grinch persona, I am embracing the season with a lovely tree and illuminating it with enchanting lights.

It is undeniably crucial, especially for those who find the festive period challenging, to gracefully navigate it with radical self-care and unwavering warmth.

That is going to look different for each of us, but some things I would suggest are –

· Go outside and be in nature – even if it’s just for 5 minutes.

· Take some time for yourself and focus on your breath.

· Connect with people who really see you and love you.

· Any heartache or family dysfunction will feel magnified at this time of year. Easier said than done, but remember; it’s just a day, and this will pass.

· Look after your body if you can – lots of water and veggies in between the booze and chocolates. And take a nap if you can. Things always look worse when we haven’t slept and our bodies are feeling toxic

Book an appointment for a pre-Christmas acupuncture session to receive solace and support for the upcoming season. Treat yourself to a New Year detox and a boost to your immune system through an acupuncture treatment. This treatment is not only meant to impact your entire system, but with five element acupuncture, it will assist you in delving deeper and unlocking your pure potential.

Always look for the glimmers of light because they are always there.
