THE FIVE ELEMENTS

The Five Elements in Traditional Chinese Medicine are Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. These make up a comprehensive approach to general health and well-being. Just as with everything in nature, the elements are interconnected: there are many branches of acupuncture and Five Elements is one of them. In ancient China, the elements were viewed as forces of nature whose energies pass through our bodies.

Each element corresponds with different seasons, emotions, biological functions, organs, directions of energy and meridians (energetic channels). It can be used to explain and treat symptoms and illnesses when the relationships between the elements break down.
