The Earth Element and Late Summer

The elements of Five Element Acupuncture are Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.

We are made up of all these Five Elements, which work together to create our system of Body, Mind and Spirit functions.

The force of harvest, sustenance, and understanding is represented by the Late Summer Season of the Earth element.  Each element has certain properties which align with a different personality or what’s known as your Guardian Element.

If your Guardian Element is predominantly Earth, you will possess qualities of empathy, compassion, support, sustenance, stability and thoughtfulness   An Earth element has to give to themselves before they can give out to others.

Balance in our Earth element allows us to stand grounded on our own two feet. We feel secure in knowing that we have enough. An imbalance in the Earth element leads to a fear of scarcity, the fear that there will not be enough food, money, love, etc. Excessive and sometimes obsessive worry results along with exhaustion and overwhelm. Trusting that one has enough, or is enough, is essential to our sense of stability and security. When we stop fearing scarcity, we are grounded and able to support ourselves as well as those around us.

This time of year can be tricky as we navigate the harvest of our own lives to ascertain if we have enough to get us through our Autumn and Winter. I often use a point translated as ‘Storehouse’ to encourage this reflective process and to help heal and rebalance the body, mind and spirit.

Traditional five element acupuncture can help identify your Guardian Element and inner elements and this will help you and I embark on your journey to holistic wellness.
