National Dog Day

Today is a day to show your dog how much you care, and to reflect on the positive impact they have on your life.

We commit and accept responsibility for providing for our pet’s needs, exercising them, and caring for their health.

In ancient China royal families raised “royal pets” in their palace. Take the Qing Dynasty for example. In the palace there were various animals for playing and enjoying, such as birds, dogs, cats, crickets and long-horned grasshoppers.

Scientists have thus provided evidence that cats began to be domesticated in China earlier than 3,000 BC.

Pets can give us companionship, love, and many health benefits. They can also help us be more social and active.

Being a dog owner, I have found the following benefits in living with my beloved Ken:

Companionship

Pets can help ease loneliness and isolation

They can provide a sense of purpose and belonging

Pets can be there for us when we need them.

Health benefits

They can help us be more active, which can improve our cardiovascular health

It is known that pets can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression

Pets can help improve heart health

Social benefits

Being a dog owner means that I have to take my dog for walks.  This often ends up with at least one chat a day with another dog owner.  This can help us all be more social and less isolated.

I have met new friends through being a dog owner and know from experience that pets can bring people together.

Our connection with pets reflects our connection with mother earth.  All living, breathing souls on the planet are connected and when you own a pet, you really experience the joy of getting to know them.

Their personalities; what foods they like, what foods they don’t like, what people they connect with, what people they don’t  connect with.  The list is endless.

What is not endless is the joy, unconditional love, and immense amounts of fun they bring to our lives.

This is why I have chosen to dedicate my blog to Ken, my dog, this February.  I want to thank him for every single blessing he brings to my life.

Thank you Ken.

If you would like to share a story or snippet about your pet, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.  If you attach a photo of your beloved pet, I will be sure to put it on my website.
