Spring & The Wood Element
The Wood Element in traditional five element acupuncture is related to spring. Spring is the birth of a new year a time of new growth and planning. We are coming out of the yin part of the year – the darkness, towards the light of the yang part of the year. We can already feel the renewed vitality in the air, as the days lengthen and become warmer. As I took my dog Ken for a walk on Saturday in Linn Park, you could see the wild garlic coming up. I can’t wait to go foraging and make pesto!
The Wood element is all about decision making, plans and visions. And indeed, how you make those decisions and plans that benefit you. When I think of the Wood Element, I think of a shoot coming up between a pavement – that plant is going to find its’ way through to the sun no matter what. It is a powerful moving force like a tree reaching in all directions; upward and outward, defying gravity (because everyone deserves to fly for all you Musical theatre fans!) That is the energy of Wood and Spring, to find your way through to a new beginning.
The Wood element is full of imagination, hope and possibilities and brings our dreams and life goals into awareness and fruition, but plans need reflection and considered with calmness so we can manifest the lives we want with balance and certainty
When our Wood is in balance, we feel optimistic and rooted in life but when it is out of balance, we feel frustrated, angry and overwhelmed with a feeling of hopelessness.
It’s hard to not feel overwhelmed with events in the world unfolding at a dizzying and horrifying speed. But the more rooted and grounded we are, especially within a community, the more we can plan for all eventualities. I hope nature gives all of us a powerful and hopeful Spring, especially Ukraine.
If you feel you’re stuck, let me help you release and utilise your Wood energy and move forward into your lives with renewed passion
